President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR on Tuesday, 15th January, 2019 appointed Mohammed Adamu, mni as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP). The appointment followed the retirement of the outgoing police boss, Mr Ibrahim K. Idris.
Born on November 9, 1961, Mohammed was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1986. He holds a bachelor degree in Geography. Mohammed was at some point deputy commissioner of police in Ekiti state and had served at the Interpol where he served for over a decade.
The new police boss, who was the President of Interpol for five years, rose to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of police (AIG). Mohammed also served as the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State and was until his appointment the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Five, in Benin, Edo State, southern Nigeria.
The Nasarawa-born police chief was at one time a directing staff of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos.
Mr Mohammed’s appointment finally brings to an end the controversy surrounding the retirement of Mr Idris as there were speculations that President Buhari might extend his tenure.
