The mounting pressure from political parties may have compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to give the go-ahead with the resumption of political campaigns.
This was contained in a statement by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the commission’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Festus Okoye.
The umpire noted that after consultations with political parties, the Commission has approved that campaigns by parties and candidates can resume forthwith to end by midnight of Thursday, 21st February 2019. It discloses that Media organizations are at liberty to accept, publish, broadcast and circulate campaigns materials up till midnight on Thursday.
The Commission warns political parties and their candidates to abide by extant rules governing campaigns.
