Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ado Doguwa, has been removed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from the list of elected House of Representatives members, stating that the election result was a “declaration made under duress.”
Doguwa, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared winner of the just concluded house of representative seat for Doguwa/Tudun Wada federal constituency of Kano state after polling 39,732 votes to defeat the closest rival and candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Yushau Salisu Abdullahi, who polled 34,798 votes.
However, INEC omitted his name from the list of the elected house of representatives members, stating that the declaration made by the returning officer was done under duress. As a result, Doguwa’s name has been removed from the list of election winners.
Ado Doguwa, a former House Whip who was elected as majority leader in July 2019, is currently facing trial for alleged involvement in the violence that led to the death of three persons. He was also accused of burning of the Secretariat of the New Nigeria People’s Party in the just concluded general election.
Although, the Federal High Court in Kano presided over by Justice Muhammad Yunusa, had on Monday, granted him bail in the sum of N500m and two sureties.
