Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja on Tuesday ruled that the trial of the missing leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu be handled separately from the rest of his co-defendants. Justice Nyako gave the order following an application filed by the prosecuting counsel Mr. Shuaibu Labaran.
The counsel had noted that the continued absence of Kanu was frustrating other cases, stressing that since he was granted bail in April 2017 he was yet to appear in court.
“In the circumstance, the prosecution shall be asking for the indulgence of your lordship to separate the trial so that progress can be made in this matter,” Labaran prayed.
Since other defence lawyers failed to oppose the application, he ruled in favour of the Prosecutor.
