The 2023 vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed rumor suggesting a crack between him and Peter Obi. He made the statement during the National Executive Council, NEC meeting of the Julius Abure faction of the Labour Party yesterday in Abuja. It was learned that the LP has been engulfed in an internal crisis, leading the party to now split into two factions, one led by Abure and the other led by interim Chairman, Nenadi Usman.
Most of the party faithful believed that Julius Abure’s tenure as the chairman of the party has expired, this as the court had directed him to stop parading himself as the national chairman of the party.
However, the likes of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Peter Obi, Datti himself, and most of the elected party stalwarts under the LP have always identified with the Usman-led faction.
Meanwhile, Baba-Ahmed, who spoke to newsmen shortly after the meeting at the Abure-led faction NEC meeting in Abuja, claimed he was there as a peacemaker.
While answering questions from journalist as to why he was at the meeting, whether that confirms his crack with his boss, Peter Obi, Baba-Ahmed said, Peter Obi is still a member of the Labour Party.
He further explained, “I have attended and I have listened to the coalition attempts. Yes, I still remain in the Labour Party,” he said.
“To the best of our knowledge, H.E. Peter Obi, my boss, is still a member of the Labour Party. He, just like I, attended the coalition talks; but coalition is not a political party. He has not become a member of ADC.
“There is no crack between Obi and myself. In fact, it’s impossible for there to be any crack between us.
“It is easier to break the head of APC than for a crack to exist between me and my boss, Peter Obi.”
