Usman Named Fighter Of The Year By ESPN

The World-renowned sports channel, Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) has named Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman as the Fighter of the Year. Usman also known as the 'Nigerian Nightmare' beat other respectful fighters like Charles Oliveira, Ciryl Gane, Kayla Harrison, Connor McGregor amongst others to clinch the award.

UFC 268: Colby Covington Kamaru Usman

Kamaru Usman has defeated Colby Covington for the second time by unanimous decision to retain the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight championship at UFC 268 as the tournament returned to Madison Square Garden, New York for the first time since 2019.

NBA Africa Announces Abudu As Head Of Its New Nigerian Office

The National Basketball Association (NBA) Africa disclosed that Gbemisola Abudu would serve as Vice President and Country Head of Nigeria, adding that the league is expected to open its third office in Africa by early 2022. This was made known on Tuesday by NBA Africa’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Victor Williams. Abudu is expected to improve NBA’s business development initiatives in Nigeria such as grassroots programs for youths, media, and merchandise partnership, corporate social responsibility, amongst other duties.

Sports Ministry: NBBF Election Suspended Indefinitely

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development announced on Monday that the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Elective Congress scheduled for Saturday, October 30, 2021, has been suspended indefinitely. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ismaila Abubakar. The statement read, “Having reviewed the crisis around the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) and in consideration of the several attempts by the supervising ministry to resolve the lingering crisis and fractionalization in the basketball family, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD) hereby directs an indefinite suspension of the NBBF Elective Congress scheduled for 30 October 2021 in Benin City. All concerned Stakeholders are expected to take note and comply.”
