28 Years Old Ethiopian Athlete, Sintayehu Legese, has emerged winner of the 2019 edition of the Lagos City Marathon, finishing the race in 2:17:26hrs.

 

The Access bank city marathon was held on 2nd of February 2019. The event which was graced with glamour and fanfare started in the early hours of Saturday. The winner of the event  Legese who finished the race with a time of 2:17:26 will be winning the grand prize of $50,000.

The second runner up, Joshua Kipkorir from Kenya had a finish time of 2: 18:16, third runner up William Yegon also from Kenya had a finish time of 2: 19: 04, and the only Nigerian that made the top 10, Goyet Gideon, who finished sixth at 2:21:11hrs. The second and third placed runners are expected to go home with $40, 000 and $30, 000.

In the female event, Ethiopians Alemnesh Herepa (02:49:05hrs) and Kebena Chala (02:49:09hrs) were second and third respectively behind Meseret, to ensure a clean sweep for the East Africans. Meseret was champion in 02:48:02hrs. Sixth-place Deborah Pam (02:52:59hrs) was Nigeria’s best performer in the female event.
