Formula One (F1) celebrates its 1,000th championship race this weekend at the China Grand Prix in Shanghai, a milestone in the elite sport. The 1,000th Grand Prix is in the 70th season of the competition, it will hold at the Shanghai International Circuit.

The astonishing journey of the F1 grand prix competition started in May 13, 1950, with the British Grand Prix, Silverstone. The race was at the former World War II airfield, and Italian racer, Giuseppe ‘Nino’ Farina won.

Through the years, the sport became more exhilarating and gained global recognition.

However, celebrations of milestones are not new to F1, as it celebrated the 100th with German GP, Nuerburgring on August 6, 1961, where Britains Stirling Craufurd Moss won.

The 200th championship race was the Monaco GP on May 23, 1971, with Jackie Stewart emerging as the winner, and the 300th to 900th GPs were memorable as well.

Meanwhile, fans of the sport have begun debating the better machines and drivers for this weekend’s race.
