Former Everton defender, Joleon Lescott, has admitted that he is shocked that Arsenal allowed Nigerian international, Alex Iwobi, join Everton. The Super Eagles forward made a shock switch to the Merseyside club on transfer deadline day for £34m after the team failed to sign Ivorian forward Wilfried Zaha.

Speaking to Sky sport, the former Everton defender revealed that the acquisition of the Eagles star will make the team better and also compete for a position in the top six in the 2019/20 Premier League season.

“I’m thinking they are the next team to break into the top tier, possibly this season. I’m a big fan of Iwobi. I’m surprised Arsenal let him go.”

Lescott also believes that with his style of play, Iwobi, will become a fan favourite at the club.

“Iwobi seems to play with good energy and desire that fans want to see regardless. He seems to be running at his maximum every time he gets the ball, which will only hold him as a fans’ favourite at Everton.”

With the signing of six new players, Lescott believes that on the overall, Everton spent well during the summer transfer window.

“I’m excited for Everton this season, I think they’ve spent well in areas that they needed to.”
