British Motorsport icon, Stirling Moss has on Sunday died at age 90 after battling a long illness, his wife Susie said." He died as he lived, looking wonderful," " It was one lap too many," " He just closed his eyes," she said.
Despite Moss never winning the Formula One (F1), he finished first runner up four times and an overall on three occasions, making him ranked an F1 all-time great.
Moss was the first Briton to win his home Grand Prix, defeating Juan Manuel Fangio at Aintree circuit for Mercedes in 1955, making his name a slogan for speed by fans.
Also, the icon won Grand Prix in Maserati, Vanwall, and Rob Walker-entered Cooper and Lotus cars.
Following his passing, Colleagues, friends and fans have expressed the loss on social media.
McLaren posted on twitter, saying " A prodigious competitor, supremely talented racer, and consummate gentleman, he leaves an indelible mark of greatness on the history of international motorsport."
Mercedes said," Today, the sporting world lost not only a true icon and a legend, but a gentleman. The team and the Mercedes Motorsport family have lost a dear friend. Sir Stirling, we’ll miss you."
