The Nigerian Women Basketball Team, D’Tigress qualified for the 2022 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women’s World Cup on Sunday after defeating Mali in their last group match.

D’Tigress defeated Mali 74-69 to secure the final Group B spot for the Women Basketball World Cup scheduled to hold in Australia from September 22 to October 1, 2022.

D’Tigress lost to China and defeated France to keep their World Cup hopes alive but their victory over Mali secured their place in the upcoming basketball competition.

Speaking on their clash with Mali, D’Tigress head coach, Otis Hughley said, “I think fatigue set in, and only having one point guard made it tough against a team in survival mode. But seriously, hats off to Mali and their undying effort. Credit to their coach who did such an amazing job and Mali almost flipped the script.

“But our girls took the punch and we’re off to Sydney-we’re just happy about that.”
