Nigeria’s Super Falcon on Saturday defeated South Africa’s Bayana Bayana 4-3 to win the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) title, at the Accra sports Stadium, Ghana. Though they emerged through penalties, their victory marks the third consecutive time the Falcons are winning the title and the ninth overall, making them the most successful team in the tournament.

The match was seemingly tough as the two teams found it difficult to score during the regulated time, which led to a tense penalty shootout.

Onome Ebi missed Nigeria’s first penalty in the shootout. However, they scored 4 with South Africa failing twice, thanks to Super Falcons’ goal keeper, Tochukwu Oluehi.

The Falcon players who contributed to Nigeria’s victory were Rita Chikwelu, Ngozi Ebere, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Chinaza Uchendu. While, Alice Matlou, Nompumelelo Nyandeni, and Mamello Makhabane scored for South Africa.
