CAF Confederation Cup: Enyimba Suffers a 2-1 Defeat To Orlando Pirate

Enyimba FC of Aba fell to a 2-1 defeat against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in their CAF Confederation Cup Group A clash at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night, moving pirates a point clear of Enyimba and Ahli Benghazi who are second and third respectively. 

Pirates dominated the game earlier and this saw them take the lead in the 27th minute through Namibian forward Deon Kavendji, who scored with a backheel from close range. As the game wore off, the visitors grew into the game and were awarded a penalty late in the first half after Siyabonga Mpontshane fouled Anayo Iwuala inside the box.

Austine Oladapo made no mistake as he superbly tucked the ball into the net with Mpontshane going the wrong way.

The home team were awarded a penalty in the 76th minute after Gabadinho Mhango was upended in the box. Substitute Tshegofatso Mabasa however blasted spot-kick wide.

Mabasa make amend for his earlier miss when the nodded home the winning goal a minute from time. The victory sends the Pirates top of the table with four points, while Enyimba and Ahli Benghazi remain second and third respectively with three points each.

Enyimba will host Algerian club ES Setif in their next game on Thursday, April 1st at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
