Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes Joint All-time International Goalscorer

Cristiano Ronaldo double against world champion France on Wednesday has made him the tournament's highest goal scorer with five goals, 14 European Championship goals, 6 world cups goal, amounting to 20 - more than anyone else, and 109 international goals in 178 appearances for Portugal to match that of former Iranian striker, Ali Daei's tally.

The Wednesday fixture with France at the Puskas Arena saw about 54,886 fans witnessed a night full of drama as France finished Group F as winners after battling out a 2-2 draw. Both Cristiano Ronaldo who scored his 108 goals (30 min) and Karim Benzema (45+2) converted controversial penalties to leave the two sides locked at 1-1 at half-time.

Benzema went on to score the second of the night (47) - given after VAR had adjudged him to be onside, before Ronaldo converted his second penalty (60) - his fifth goal of the tournament and 109th international goal - to keep his side's Euro dreams alive, finishing third on the group while Germany finished second on the log.

Ronaldo, is, however, 77 goals from being the all-time goal scorer in the sport, Canada women's national team forward Christine Sinclair is the highest goal scorer with 186 goals. Portugal will face Belgium in the R16, and Ronaldo will be looking to add to his tally.
