Plateau United on Sunday edged closer to clinching the Nigeria Professional Football League title for the first time since the creation of the team 41 years ago. The Peace Boys have one hand on the league cup as a top-of-the-table clash with MFM in Jos ended in 1-0 victory to open a six-point margin with four matches remaining.

The Kennedy Boboye’s tutored side was put ahead just after three minutes by Ibeh Johnson. The table toppers sustained the pressure as Daniel Itodo came close to adding a second when his bicycle-kick hit the woodwork. The hosts moments later pushed for yet another goal through Anayo Ogbonnaya but the visitors' goalkeeper Folarin Abayomi was on to deny them.

A late rally from the visitors failed to change the face of the game as the host held on to win the match and extend their lead by six points.
