Lionel Messi Claims 7th Ballon d'Or

Argentine forward, Lionel Messi has been named winner of the 65th Ballon d'Or after seeing off challenges from Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho. Messi who moved to PSG during the summer transfer window has always been a favourite to win the prestigiuos award after bagging the Copa Derey and COPA America.

The Ballon d'Or was handed out for the first time in two years. The award was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Robert Lewandowski, who was the favourite in 2020 before the awards were cancelled scored 73 goals in just 60 games for Bayern Munich since the start of last season and won FIFA's and UEFA's men's player of the year awards in 2020.
