Real Madird yesterday produced a dominant display to beat Barcelona 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu to win the Spanish Super Cup. The feat came after a controversial 3-1 win at the Nou Camp, where Christiano Ronaldo was sent off and subsequently handed a five-match ban by the Spanish Football Governing Body.

Asensio produced another spectacular display in the fourth minute of the game after collecting a pass from 25 yard before curling a superb strike to put the Los Blancos ahead. In the 39th minute, Benzema made it double after he controlled Marcelo's cross before putting it past Barcelona keeper.

Luca Vazquez was awarded the man of the match. Sky Sports explained that "while he may not have registered a goal or an assist on Wednesday, Vazquez was a constant menace for the Barcelona defence, especially in the first half. His darting runs down the right flank left Samuel Umtiti and co in all sorts of bother as Real dominated proceedings and he should have had a goal after hitting the woodwork in the 34th minute."

Both clubs begin their La Liga campaign on Sunday with Barcelona playing host to Real Betis while Real Madrid will welcome Deportivo.
