U-20 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria To Play France, Others

The Super Falconets of Nigeria were drawn into Group C of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup competition to play against France, Canada, and Korea. The draw ceremony took place at the Teatro Nacional (National Theatre) in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica.


The football competition is scheduled to take place in Costa Rica from the 10th to the 28th of August, 2022 with a total of 16 teams battling for the tournament’s cup.

Nigeria’s first match will be against France on August 11th, followed by the team’s second game against Korea scheduled for August 14th, and its final group C match will be played on August 17th against Canada.

The host of the competition, Costa Rica was placed in Group A with Australia, Spain, and Brazil.

Group B comprises Germany, New Zealand, Mexico, and Colombia while Japan, Netherlands, USA, and Ghana were placed in Group D of the tournament.

Since the competition was launched in Canada 20 years ago, only four countries which are Nigeria, Germany, Brazil, and the USA have played in all editions of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Germany has won the tournament 3 times (2004, 2010, and 2014); the USA has also won thrice (2002, 2008, and 2012) while Nigeria has reached the finals twice, losing to Germany in 2010 and 2014.
