Liverpool handed Manchester United their joint heaviest defeat in history with a SEVEN-NIL thrashing at Anfield. The last time united was dismantled like this was 82 years ago when they lost a game 7-0, on Boxing Day 1931.

The clash between the two most successful football clubs in the country has never been shy of goals. Over the last two seasons, Liverpool has scored 17 goals in four outings against United. Last season, Liverpool registered a record aggregate scoreline with their 5-0 win at Old Trafford and 4-0 win at Anfield, the worst aggregate league-double scoreline that United have suffered in the Premier League era.

Earlier in the season, a resurgent manchester united defeated Liverpool 2-1, with goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford ensuring a united win before an 81 st minute consolation goal from Mohamed Salah.

Matchday 25 saw a different Liverpool, 8 days after united won Ten Hags' first trophy, Liverpool ran riot. The reds opened the scoring 43 minutes after Andrew Robertson laid the ball off to Cody Gakpo, who shot from close range into the bottom right corner.

Liverpool's lead doubled two minutes after the restart. Harvey Elliott swung the ball deep into the box and found Darwin Nunez unmarked, and his close-range header flew past the keeper into the left side of the goal.

It became 3-0 when Mohamed Salah teed up Cody Gakpo inside the box and he rolled the ball into the bottom left corner and past David de Gea.

After recently recovering from his goal-scoring drought, Salah scored a 66th-minute screamer to make it 4-0 before a Darwin Nunez header increased the tally from the home team. Salah added his second goal seven minutes to duration time before Substitute Roberto Firmino made it 7-0.
