Nigerian trio Olufunke Oshonaike, Olajide Omotayo and Edem Offiong has clinched tickets in table tennis for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Former African champion, Oshonaike defeated Cameroon’s Sarah Hannfou 4-1 (12-10, 11-4, 4-11, 11-7, 11-6), while 33-year-old Offiong defeated Gulti Marta of Ethiopia 4-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5) in her first game and followed it up with a difficult 4-3 (13-11,11-1,9-11,11-95-11,8-11,11-6) win over home girl Garci Fadwa.

Olympic regular and former champion Aruna Quadri will not be participating due to a recurring thigh injury and could be 'replaced' by 25-year-old Olajide Omotayo who clinched an Olympic ticket in table tennis in his debut appearance.

25-year-old Omotayo was included in the Nigerian squad at the 2020 ITTF World Team Qualification Tournament after clinching the men’s singles title at the 2019 African Games in Rabat in August.
