Facebook Chief Executive, Mark Zuckerberg is set to unify the messaging services of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to incorporate end-to-end encryptions into the apps for better privacy and security. According to New York Times, the apps will continue to operate separately, however, the technical infrastructure will be integrated.
This development will allow users communicate between the three messaging platforms, with 2.6 billion users altogether.
In a statement, Facebook said it would "build the best messaging experiences we can; and people want messaging to be fast, simple, reliable and private."
Though still in its early stages, the integration is expected to be completed between end of this year and early 2020. It will require employees of the platforms to reconfigure the apps to function.
By the integration, Zuckerberg aims to increase the utility of the company, keep users engaged and reduce peoples interest in other messaging services such as Apple and Google. The company also wants to improve its advertising business revenues.
