Apple Inc. is taking the next step with, joining the self-driving car technology, targeting 2024 for productions including its own next level battery technology. According to Reuters, the automotive move called “Project Titan” began in 2014 when the company started designing its own vehicle from scratch but reassessed its goals and turned its focus on software. Doug Field, an Apple veteran who worked at Tesla Inc began overseeing Project Titan in 2018, laying off 190 people working on the project in 2019. “If there is one company on the planet that has the resources to do that, it’s probably Apple. But at the same time, it’s not a cellphone,” a person who worked on Project Titan said.

However, pandemic related fears have sparked possible production date till 2025 or beyond.

Though making self-driving cars will take Apple to the next level, it is noteworthy that Elon Musk’s Tesla took 17 years before it finally turned profitable.
