Apple Inc. announced that starting from next year, customers using iPhone 12 and 13 would be equipped with parts, tools, and manuals to comfortably repair their own iPhone devices. Potential for users to conduct additional repairs will also be made available later in 2022 which would include its Macs with M1 chips. The company made this known on Wednesday and also said the "Self Service Repair" scheme would kick off in the United States of America and would be expanded to other countries throughout 2022.

Apple said, "In the past three years, Apple has doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple genuine parts, tools, and training, and now we're providing an option for those who wish to complete their own repairs.

"Self Service Repair is intended for individual technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices. For the vast majority of customers, visiting a professional repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair."

According to TechCrunch, repairing the device yourself would not make a device's warranty void but damaging your device during repairs could invalidate the device's warranty.

The first phase of the scheme would focus on the most commonly repaired components of the iPhone which is the battery, display and camera.

The price of parts and tools has not yet been announced but Apple said it plans to sell more than 200 individual parts and tools to customers.

Customers will also be able to review repair manuals before buying parts for their damaged devices.

After a repair, customers who return their used/damaged part to Apple Inc. for recycling would receive credit toward their purchase.
