The parent company of Facebook and Instagram, Meta, has announced a new monthly verification fee of $11.99 for verified accounts on their social media platforms. According to reports, this was revealed in a Facebook post, on Sunday by the CEO, Mark Zuckerberg which said that ‘Meta Verified’ would let users, “verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support.

“This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services.”

According to the company, subscribers of the service must be at least 18 years old and their government ID is expected to match their profile name and photo.

Meta also said that there will be “no changes to accounts on Instagram and Facebook that are already verified based on prior requirements, including authenticity and notability.

“We’ll be rolling out in Australia and New Zealand this week and more countries soon.”

This announcement by Meta follows the recent service being introduced by other social media companies such as Twitter, Snapchat with the aim of cutting costs and boosting revenue generation.
