FG Completes Emergency Communication Centre in Edo

In efforts to provide effective and prompt response system during emergencies, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has completed a new Emergency Communications Centre in Benin, Edo State.

 

Mr. Oluwatoyin Asaju, Director of Special Duties Department, NCC made the disclosure during a visit to Governor Godwin Obaseki, at the Government House in Benin City.

 

Asaju said the new centre will enable the 112 emergency calls to be directed to the appropriate agencies for adequate and prompt response in cases of emergencies. He informed that the 112 emergency code is a toll-free call which notifies agencies such as Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps and among others of any incidences reported in the state.

 

The Director urged the governor to provide the centre with uninterrupted power supply so as to enable the centre function efficiently, adding that the State Government would take over the operation and deploy representatives of various security agencies before the official launch of the centre.

 

He noted that the Commission has trained personnel to operate the centre.

 

Speaking, the Chief of Staff who represented the governor, Chief Taiwo Akerele said the partnership between the commission and Edo State would improve the quality of living in the state with the new centre.

 

He assured the provision of power supply to the centre as the state takes over operations and maintenance.
