Apple’s automated assistant, Siri has been reported to regularly record people having sex, discussing confidential medical information as well as illegal drug dealings.
The American multinational technology company, Apple Inc. developed Siri to assist users in answering questions and making recommendations using a natural interface. The feature which is activated when a user says “Hey Siri” is part of the iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, tvOS and audioOS operating systems.
Speaking to the Guardian, an Apple contractor who was contracted by the company to review Siri recordings in order to grade its efficiency said “There have been countless instances of recordings featuring private discussions between doctors and patients, business deals, seemingly criminal dealings, sexual encounters and so on,”
“These recordings are accompanied by user data showing location, contact details and app data,” The worker added.
While speaking, the contractor expressed concern over the of accidental triggers of the feature which weren’t “Hey Siri”, noting that most recordings were made by the Apple Watch and Home Pod.
However, the company said it only reviews less than 1% recordings which are only seconds longare analysed in secure facilities to improve the software as well as dictation.
