NASENI Partner Chinese In $2BN Investment Deals On Science, Infrastructural Development

The Federal Government, through the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI has signed $2 billion dealings with Chinese associates to improve science, engineering and infrastructural development in Nigeria. The Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Khalil Halilu, disclosed this on Thursday in a statement released through its Information Director, Segun Ayeoyenikan.

Nokia To Cut Down Thousands of Jobs After Profit Plunge

Finnish telecom giant Nokia has disclosed its plans to cut its workforce down up to 14,000 jobs over the period of three years as its cost slashes after a worse-than-expected slump in demand for its mobile network equipment.
Nokia stated that the plans to cut 16% of its 86,000-strong global workforce were part of efforts to cut costs by €1.2bn by the end of 2026. The cuts were announced as the company revealed a 70% drop in third-quarter profits, which fell to €133m (£116m) compared with €428m a year earlier.

Meta Begins Rolling Out Its First Gen AI Features For Advertisers

Meta today announced its first generative AI-powered tools for advertisers, available inside Meta's Ad Manager network. Nigeria's 5G Subscription Hits 500,000 – NCC

The subscription for Nigeria's Fifth Generation network has reached the 500,000 mark. The Executive Vice Chairman, of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Dantatta, who revealed this at a media parley recently in Kano noted that NCC is also promising to achieve at least 50 percent broadband coverage of the nation before the end of 2023. NCC also revealed that general internet subscriptions reached 159.5 million from less than 100 million in 2015. The Executive Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, noted that the national target to achieve 70 percent broadband penetration by 2025 was receiving renewed attention from the Commission.
According to a statement by NCC’s spokesperson, Mr. Rueben Muoka, Danbatta gave statistics. The statement quoted the NCC boss as saying that the various efforts of the Commission to improve broadband penetration were yielding fruitful results with the current estimates as of July 2023 standing at 47.01 per cent.

NERC Unveils Power Outage, Disruptions Reporting App

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has unveiled an application known as the Power Outage Reporting System to enable electricity consumers report electricity disruptions and outages to Distribution Companies (DisCo). The unveiling ceremony was held on Monday at NERC’s Headquarters in Abuja where the NERC Chairman, Sanusi Garba revealed that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) would be utilized as a test-run for the app pending a national roll-out for all DisCos.
