23 African Countries Now Covered By Google's Ai Flood Hub

Google has now expanded FloodHub to 80 countries worldwide, adding 60 new countries across Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and South and Central America. The newly included regions include areas with the highest percentages of people exposed to flood risk, such as the Netherlands, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia. This comes as flooding, due to climate change, continues to affect over 250 million people per year, resulting to economic damage of at least R200 billion ($10 billion) across the world. Another important upgrade is that FloodHub will be able to provide forecasting up to seven days in advance, which is a big increase from 48 hours last year. The platform will be able to provide forecasting to 460 million people around the globe, according to Google.

WhatsApp Introduces New Update On Login

The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg has revealed an update that will enable users to log in as many as four smartphones with the same account in WhatsApp one of the most used social media applications. The instant message app boss has considered the update as several users requested for the new features. This was disclosed by META in a statement on 25th April 2013 According to the statement, the new feature aims to make it easier for users to switch between devices without having to log in and out of their accounts constantly.

Twitter Removes Verification Badges of President Buhari, Trump, Others

The social media platform, Twitter Inc. on Thursday began the mass removal of verification badges from users' accounts such as the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari; a former president of the United States of America, Donald Trump; football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo; amongst other prominent figures. Verification badges or ‘blue ticks’ were free and attached to verified accounts of prominent people such as celebrities, politicians, and others.

WhatsApp Introduces New Feature, Enables Users Edit Sent Messages

One of the most used social media applications, WhatsApp has revealed that its users will be able to edit messages sent not more than 15 minutes after. This new feature enables corrections, whether it is misspelling or desire to provide additional context and improvements effortlessly. Although, when a sent message has been altered it will display as "edited" alongside them, to inform the receiver that the message had been corrected or modified, without the need to search through the edit history.
WhatsApp wrote; "For the moments when you make a mistake, or simply change your mind, you can now edit your sent messages," To edit a sent message, it's as easy as a long-press on the message you want to modify. A menu will appear, and you simply select 'Edit.' You will have up to fifteen minutes after sending a message to make any necessary changes or enhancements.

Twitter Reinstates Blue Ticks For Some Celebrities

A few days ago, Twitter removed the legacy blue tick from all accounts thereby flooding the platform with unverified accounts owing to nonpayment of the $8 subscription fee. With the launch of paid subscription service Twitter Blue, only users who have subscribed will be able to have a blue checkmark in front of their names along with access to some brand-new features. Due to this development, many celebrities and noted personalities across various domains had lost their coveted verification check mark. However, now, it seems that the microblogging site's new owner Elon Musk has made some exceptions for people who have not enrolled for the service. He seems to have restored the blue badge of users with reportedly over a million followers, a report in Rolling Stone.

SpaceX Starship Rocket Launches In Historic Test But Explodes Midair

Elon Musk’s SpaceX, launched its Starship, the largest and most powerful rocket ever built for the first time, but fell short of reaching space after suffering a mid-flight failure. No crew were on board. The company made a first go at getting this launch off the ground on Monday, but a pressure valve in the Super Heavy booster apparently froze. The company’s teams worked to resolve a number of unidentified issues to make a second attempt possible on Thursday. The huge rocket, loaded with nearly 10 million pounds of liquid oxygen and explosive liquid natural gas fuel, flew for several minutes before it began to tumble and the mission ended in a ball of flame. SpaceX leadership has repeatedly stressed the experimental nature of the launch and noted that any result that involved Starship getting off the Launchpad would be a success. Musk on Sunday advised reporters that the odds of success were low and stressed simply clearing the launch pad gantry and getting to separation of the first and second stages would be considered a successful test flight given the size and complexity of the vehicle.
