The World’s Richest Man Offers To Buy Twitter

Tesla chief and the world’s richest man, Elon Musk has offered to acquire the social media giant, Twitter for the sum of $43.4 billion, adding that it was his “best and final offer”. This was made known in a statement by the microblogging platform on Thursday confirming Musk’s bid. The statement by Twitter reads: “The Twitter Board of Directors will carefully review the proposal to determine the course of action that it believes is in the best interest of the company and all Twitter stockholders”.

Microsoft To Train 5M Nigerians

Microsoft has on Friday announced that it will be training at least five million Nigerians in efforts to create jobs and build the digital infrastructure of the country, Microsoft President, Brad Smith said. This comes weeks after the tech company launched $200 million African Development Centre in Lagos. Smith made the announcement during a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja, disclosing that 60,000 persons have already enrolled for courses, while 300,000 have completed some courses.

Instagram To Shut Down IGTV App

Instagram has announced the discontinuation of the standalone IGTV app but will instead focus on keeping all videos in the main Instagram app. This was announced on Monday by the company in a blog post, adding that the decision was made to simplify its video format making it easier to create and watch videos on Instagram.

FG Tasks NDPB On Data Protection

The Federal Government (FG) has called on the newly established Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) to ensure data protection, confidentiality, and privacy in Nigeria. The call was made on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami during the official inauguration of the Bureau’s logo, website, and core values. He said it was necessary for an institution to be responsible for data protection, privacy, and confidentiality; which are already mentioned in existing laws in the country’s various agencies.

Google To Assist Women Entrepreneurs With 1million Dollars

Google on 8th March 2022, has revealed that Google.org will donate one million dollars to charitable funding in support of women entrepreneurs programmers to help grow their businesses. During a virtual meeting organized by Google to mark the International Women's Day tagged "Know Her Name", the Head Brand and Reputation, Africa-Google, Mojolaoluwa Aderemi-Makinde stated that the funding was meant for part of a series of the new initiatives channeled at supporting women-owned businesses.

Google, Meta Block Russian State Media From Monetizing Ads On Platform

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Google have barred Russia's State-owned media outlet RT and other channels from running and earning money on ads on their websites, apps, and YouTube videos. In a post on Twitter, Meta's Security Policy Head, Nathaniel Gleicher said "We also continue to apply labels to additional Russian state media". "These changes have already begun rolling out and will continue into the weekend."
