According to Ice Universe, a well-known Weibo leaker, the Pixel 3 XL will have an OLED display with a notch made by LG. This information was first reported by the Digital Daily, a Korean publication with no track record of Google leaks. However, the Weibo posting adds more weight to the report.
Unlike last year’s Pixel 2 XL, the leaker claims this year’s device will boast a display notch, falling in line with recent leaks. Additionally, regarding the supplier of the panel, LG Display is understood to be the sole provider, which could mean LG will return as the manufacture of the larger smartphone.
Nevertheless, it will remain to be seen who manufacturers the smaller Pixel 3. After all, last year’s Pixel 2 was manufactured by HTC and, unlike the larger variant, this year’s smaller device will sport a slightly more traditional 18:9 aspect ratio with no display notch in sight.
Despite the physical differences, the internal hardware of each device is likely to remain alike. Currently, no further details have been leaked, though the Snapdragon 845 by Qualcomm will most probably be powering the duo of smartphones. This is then expected to be coupled with 6GB of RAM, and possibly 128GB of internal storage, although 64GB and 256GB variants are also possibilities.
On the camera, it’s uncertain if Google will finally opt to take in a second camera. But considering the company has so far turned away from the popular setup, 2018’s Pixel series could continue with this trend.
