Technology giant Microsoft is set to launch its first data centers in Africa come 2018. The centre located in Cape Town and Johannesburg South Africa will provide a range of cloud services such as Office 365, Azure, and Dynamics 365.
This move gives Microsoft an edge over other cloud service providers such as Amazon and Google especially in the teeming Africa market.
Scott Guthrie, executive vice president for Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise group while commenting on the project said “This announcement brings us to 40 cloud regions around the world — more than any other cloud provider — and helps organizations and people from Cairo to Cape Town accelerate their journey to cloud computing.”
The data centre which will primarily serve the Africa market will enhance the experience of customers as they will have faster cloud services
Will help in delivering faster clound servies in the region as the communication distance between the customer and the data centre is less. Meanwhile IBM was the first major cloud services company to open a data centre hub in Johannesburg in 2016.
