The Federal government has said the ban on operations on micro blogging platform, Twitter will soon be lifted as it has resolved some of the issues it raised with the social media platform. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made the above information public after the virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) at the President Villa, Abuja. Addressing state house correspondents on the government’s negotiation with the micro-blogging site the minister noted that reasonable progress has been made in resolving the impasse following series of meetings. He added that most of the conditions given to the platform have been accepted. He said issues like Twitter setting up an office in the country and having a Twitter staff of management cadre that will serve as the country representative, were being discussed.

Though Twitter has agreed to the condition, it is however maintaining the earliest it can establish an office is 2022.

The minister expressed confidence that everything will be ironed out with Twitter within a few days or weeks while acknowledging the anxiety that has been shown by Nigerians.

The government had on June 4 announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter’s operation in Nigeria after alleging that micro-blogging site was being used to undermine “Nigeria’s corporate existence” through the spreading of fake news that have “violent Consequences”.
