Twitter Inc., the micro-blogging and social networking platform has announced that it would suspend accounts of users impersonating celebrities, etc if the Twitter account is not clearly labeled as ‘parody’. This was made known on Monday in a series of tweets from the verified account of the world’s richest person and the company’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Elon Musk.

Musk’s tweets read as follows, “Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended.

“Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning. This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue. Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark”.

Since Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter in October 2022, he has announced several reforms such as the $8 monthly verification fee for Twitter accounts with a blue tick which is used to verify the accounts of public personalities, etc.
