Huawei Mate 10 Pro is an AI-powered phone that's both smart and powerful. Huawei, the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, launched its most powerful - and supposedly its smartest as well - phone to date, the Mate 10 Pro , on Monday.

The Mate 10 Pro comes with high-end premium looks with high-end premium specs backed by high-end premium artificial intelligence courtesy Huawei's in-house Neural Processing Unit. The Mate 10 Pro, in addition, can also be connected to a monitor (keyboard and mouse) to mirror a desktop-like experience without needing a separate dock courtesy Huawei's in-house Easy projection mode.

The Mate 10 Pro comes with an all-glass and metal body, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 6-inch edge-to-edge bezel-less OLED screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, dual cameras (12-megapixel RGB and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor), a Kirin 970 processor with 6 gigs of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (without an expansion slot), Android Oreo-based EMUI 8, and a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging that is said to top up the phone from 0 to 100 per cent in just 90 minutes.

The highlight of the Mate 10 Pro is however its AI-capabilities that have been designed to take on Apple, Samsung and Google.

The Neural Processing Unit, which is part of Huawei's Kirin 970 chip, is designed to aid the Mate 10 Pro in tasks like advanced scene detection, live translation through the camera and computational photography tricks combining images from the two image sensors for fancy portrait effects.

The AI on-board the Mate 10 Pro, moreover, is claimed to learn a user's usage patterns over time so that it will be able to open frequently apps faster and selectively put to rest all apps that are deemed secondary in order to conserve battery life. Because the Mate 10 Pro's AI tricks would happen locally - instead of over cloud - Huawei's phone would be able to do 'smart' things faster and without compromising on user's privacy.

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be available for buying in November in as many as four colours: Midnight Blue, Titanium Gray, Pink Gold and Mocha Brown. Price starts at around $799. There's also a toned down version, the Huawei Mate 10, that ships with slightly toned down specs like 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.
