Apple's Music is coming to Amazon’s Alexa-powered speakers, in a unusual move by the iPhone maker to widen its service beneficence to users of rival devices. Amazon in a statement made on Friday said Apple Music would be available starting December 17 on Echo speakers in the latest sign of a truce between the two technology giants.

“Music is one of the most popular features on Alexa, since we launched Alexa four years ago, customers are listening to more music in their homes than ever before,” said Dave Limp, senior vice president of Amazon Devices.

“We’re thrilled to bring Apple Music, one of the most popular music services in the US, to Echo customers this holiday, Amazon’s statement said.”

“Customers will be able to ask Alexa to play their favourite songs, artists, and albums, or any of the playlists made by Apple Music’s editors from around the world, covering many activities and moods”.

Amazon Echo comes in a number of different models but all having the same core functionality, that is because every Echo device comes with Alexa built-in, meaning owners can ask the virtual questions and request it perform a manner of tasks. All Echo hardware comes with a speaker system that is capable of streaming audio from the likes of Spotify and Amazon music. Such a feature is hugely popular with owners and can be controlled using voice commands.

Amazon is however adding this support for Apple Music to its line of Echo products. The move will help Apple, which has some 50 million paying music subscribers, ramp up its competition against market leader Spotify.
