N4.4trn Debt: Cabals Frustrating AMCON Effort - Senate

The Senate committee on banking, insurance and other Financial institutions has raised an alarm that some highly-placed individuals in the country are thwarting the effort of The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) to recover N4.4trillion cornered by some individuals. According to Senator Uba Sani, the Committee Chairman, who made this known today during a meeting on “Consolidating the effectiveness of the asset recovery model adopted by AMCON” at Zuma Rock Resort, Niger State.

FG To Recover Fresh $200m Loot – Malami

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN, has revealed that the Federal Government of Nigeria would soon make more recovery of public fund of about $200million stolen which is kept outside the country. Malami made this known during the 2021 annual public lecture organised by the centre for Media and Peace Initiative, New York, United state of America. The Special Assistant on Media and public Relations to the AGF, Dr Umar Gwandu made the statement on behalf of the AGF saying that outstanding successes recorded by the President Buhari administration in international asset recovery, could be a good template for other African countries to copy from.

President Buhari To Attend Investment Summit In Saudi Arabia

President Muhammadu Buhari will today (Monday) depart for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to participate in the investment conference organized by the Future Investment Initiative Institute. This was contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja, on Sunday. It was revealed that president Buhari will be joined by business executives from Nigeria, bankers, Captains of industry and energy experts at the 5th edition of the flagship ‘Investment In Humanity’ event, to discuss issues bordering on the future of investments across the globe.

Dangote Group Loses Vice President

Vice president of Dangote Group and younger brother of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, Sani Dangote has died in the United States after a protracted illness. The owner of Dansa Agro-allied Limited was also known for his role as chairman Dangote Cement, Dangote Sugar, Dangote Agro Sacks, Dangote Refinery, Petrochemical and Fertiliser company. Until his death, he was the deputy chairman of the African Gum Arabic Producers Association and a fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Shipping and president of the Fertilizer Producers and Suppliers Association.

FG To Unveil eNaira On Monday – CBN

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to unveil Nigeria's digital currency, e-Naira on Monday, the Central Bank of Nigeria disclosed. The digital currency had earlier been scheduled for unveiling on October 1, 2021, but was postponed by the CBN citing activities line up to the independence day celebration. The Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Osita Nwanisobi made the disclosure in a statement title "President Buhari to unveil eNaira on Monday, 25 October 2021."

President Buhari Departs Paris To Attend South Africa’s Intra-African Trade Fair

President Muhammadu Buhari departed Paris, France on Saturday for another international event scheduled to take place in Durban, South Africa. President Buhari is expected to take part in the 2021 inauguration of the second Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) based on a special invitation by the president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity and titled, ‘President Buhari Leaves Paris For Intra African Trade Fair in South Africa’.

FEC Approves 5 Year National Development Plan Worth N348.7trn

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo approved the 2021-2025 National Development Plan. The National Development Plan with an investment size of N348.7tn is expected to be funded by the federal, state governments, and also the private sector. The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Dr. Zainab Ahmed briefed correspondents on Wednesday after the FEC’s meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

VAT Controversy: Northern Governors Meet Today To Suggest Way Forward

The Northern Governors Forum have today set for an emergency meeting in Kaduna state to discuss issues bordering on the value Added Tax (VAT) that have stirred a controversy in the Nigerian political space recently. The Coordinator of the Forum Secretariat who also doubled as the secretary to the plateau state government, Professor Danladi Atu, confirmed the meeting yesterday saying it will be hosted by Governor Nasiru El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state. This is coming as some senior lawyers have berated the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who declared that no state has the power to collect the VAT.

With eNaira, Nigeria’s GDP Projected To Increase By $29bn In 10 Years – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday announced that with the introduction of detail currency by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is projected to rise by $29 billion in the next years. This is even as the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, revealed that since the launch and going live of the eNaira platform, there had been overwhelming interest and encouraging response from Nigerians and other parties across the world, with over 2.57 million daily visit to the website. The digital currency has two applications; speed wallet and eNaira merchant wallet, which were launched on the Google Playstore and Apple Store. The President for emphasis also stressed that Nigeria was the first country in Africa and one of the first in the world to introduce digital currency to her citizens. Buhari said with the introduction of the eNaira government will be able to send direct payments to citizens eligible for specific welfare programmes as well as foster cross-border trade.
He added it will increase remittances, improve financial inclusion, make monetary policy more effective, and other benefits. President Buhari said, “estimate suggests the adoption of new CBN digital currency is estimated to increase Nigeria’s GDP by $29 billion over the next 10 years.

Crude Oil Theft: FG To Deploy Army, Navy And Civil Defence Against Illegal Refiners

Following the unabated oil theft in the Niger-Delta region, the Federal Government has said it will deploy Army, Navy and civil defence to fight against the economic saboteurs. Consequently, the FG has set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee on the recovery of all illegally refined products being produced in the creek of the Niger-Delta region. Accordingly, those who were drafted to constitute the committee include members from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Civil Defence Corps and the Federal Ministry of Defence. Representatives from the Federal Ministry of Justice were not left behind, Environment, Nigerian National petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Department of petroleum Resources (DPR) and the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency were also co-opted into the team.
