The United States has on Monday announced that it has placed Nigeria on a religious freedom violation blacklist after growing complaints of insecurity by Christian groups. This is in line with the US law which requires countries to be designated under either engage in or tolerate "systematic, ongoing, egregious violations of religious freedom". Other Countries designated including China, Iran, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Myanmar, North Korea, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. The announcement was made by Mike Pompeo, US secretary of State on Twitter, saying Nigeria has been designated as a "Country of Particular Concern", adding that "no country or entity should be allowed to persecute people with impunity because of their beliefs".

Unites States President-elect, Joe Biden has been nominated US-based Nigerian, Adewale Adeyemo as the Deputy Treasury Secretary. Adeyemo's nomination came while Biden unveiled his economic team, highlighting the historic nature of his nominations. Adeyemo worked as the International Economics Adviser for the Trans-Pacific Partnership during Barack Obama's administration. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley before proceeding to Yale Law School where he bagged his Juris Doctor, specializing in Law.

Following the declaration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the winners of the United States 2020 Presidential elections, emerging as President-elect and Vice President-elect, President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the president-elect on his feat. In a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the president said "your election is a significant reminder that democracy is the best form of government because it offers the people the opportunity to change their government by peaceful means."

US 2020 Election: Joe Biden Launches Transition Website

The Democratic candidate for the United States' Presidential election, Joe Biden has launched an official transition website "www.buildbackbetter.com". Though votes in America are still being counted, the former vice president on the website noted that the American people will decide the next U.S president. "Votes are still being counted in several states around the country. "The crises facing the country are severe — from a pandemic to an economic recession, climate change to racial injustice. "The transition team will continue preparing at full speed so that the Biden‑Harris Administration can hit the ground running on Day One,” the statement says.

US President And Wife Test Positive For COVID-19

United States President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania have tested positive to COVID-19. They will begin quarantining immediately, he said. Trump, who announced this in a tweet on his Twitter page on Friday, said they will be quarantined and recovery process will begin immediately. "we will get through this together," he wrote. The President and first lady are "both well," and Trump is expected to continue his duties while recovering, a statement from the White House doctor said. Trump's diagnosis came just hours after his top aide Hope Hicks tested positive for the virus.
