Nigeria’s female national basketball team, D’Tigress will depart the country on August 16, for Bamako to participate in the 2017 Women’s Afrobasketball competition. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 18. This disclosure was made by a member of the Nigeria Basketball Federation’s board, Sam Ahmedu.

Brazil have returned to the top of FIFA world ranking according to the latest assessment released for the month of August by the football governing body. The country moved up to the top position despite not playing a single game since the July rankings were released. The report which has been widely described as shocking has the Confederation Cup Winner, Germany in the second position while Argentina maintained the third position.

Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt was beaten in his last 100 metres race by American Justin Gatlin and his compatriot Christian Coleman in London on Saturday night in the World Championship 100 metres final.

Botswana’s sprinter, Isaac Makwala will run an individual time trial in an attempt to qualify for the 200m semi-finals at the World Championships in London, according to Athletics governing body. Makwala made headlines earlier this week after being disqualified from the 400m final after an alleged outbreak of norovirus. He was barred from the race on Tuesday night with officials citing public health concerns as grounds for barring the athlete.

Nigerian sprinter, Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor on Saturday finished second in her heat in 11.22 seconds to qualify for the second round of the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in London.
