Buhari To Stay In UK For Additional Week Over Dental Procedure - Presidency

President Muhammad Buhari will spend another week in London before returning to Nigeria, the presidency said. The Presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday which stated that the delay in Buhari's return is at the "behest" of his dentist.

President Buhari Attends King Charles Coronation Ceremony

President Muhammadu Buhari joined other world leaders for the coronation ceremony of King Charles III which was held on Saturday in the United Kingdom. King Charles ascended the throne on September 8, 2022, after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II who reigned for 70 years, the longest-serving British monarch.

Pope Francis Hospitalized For Respiratory Infection

Pope Francis had a “quiet night” in the hospital after he was admitted for a respiratory infection on Wednesday, according to Italian news agency ANSA. He is expected to remain there for a few days for treatment. The agency quoted sources from the Gemelli University Hospital on Thursday morning that medical staff was “very optimistic’’ that the Pope could be back in the Vatican in just a few days, in time for Palm Sunday and ahead of what is a busy season for the Catholic leader. Pope Francis is due to celebrate Palm Sunday this weekend ahead of the Vatican's Holy Week observances: Holy Thursday; Good Friday; the Easter Vigil; and Easter Sunday on 9 April.

Biden Visit Ukraine, Pledges $500m In Military Aid

US President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Kyiv today, Monday 20th Of February ahead of the first year anniversary of the Russia/Ukraine war. The president made a 10-hour train ride from the border of Poland to the embattled capital of Ukraine on Monday, to show his administration’s unwavering support to the country and President, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Finland Joins NATO

Finland formally joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on Tuesday, becoming its 31st member in a historic shift. Finland’s membership became official after a transfer of papers at NATO’s Brussels headquarters. Turkey, the last country to ratify Finland’s membership handed its documents to Blinken, as the United States is the depository of NATO’s 1949 treaty. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg then invited Finland to do the same, concluding the accession process.

Jacinda Ardern has announced she will quit as New Zealand prime minister ahead of this year’s election, saying she no longer has “enough in the tank’, to lead. Speaking at a Labour Party Retreat on Thursday she said “I’m leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility, the responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead and also when you are not. I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It’s that simple,” she said. “I am human, politicians are human. We give all that we can for as long as we can. And then it’s time. And for me, it’s time,” she added.
