Jailed Iranian Woman Narges Mohammadi Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Incarcerated Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi has won the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran. Announcing the decision on Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said Ms Mohammadi, 51, was awarded for her struggles to promote human rights and freedom for all. The committee said her "brave struggle" has come with tremendous personal costs as she has been arrested 13 times, convicted five times, sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison, and received 154 lashes.

USA-Iran Deal: 5 prisoners Freed, $6Bn Funds Unfrozen

The United States America (USA) and the Republic of Iran have concluded a deal where 5 American citizens with Iranian citizenship were swapped in exchange for the unfreezing of $6 billion of Iranian funds. The frozen funds were transferred to banks in Qatar, which acted as the mediator in the deal between the 2 countries.

10 Killed As Israeli Military Launch Massive Raid In Jenin

Several thousand Palestinians have fled their homes in the Jenin refugee camp in the north as Israeli military launched the biggest military operation in the West Bank in years, according to Palestinian officials. The Palestinian Red Cresent said it has evacuated about 3,000 people from the Jenin camp, where about 14,000 people live in an area of less than half a square kilometre. Atleast 10 Palestinians have been killed during the raid were over 1,000 Israeli soldiers backed by air attacks raided the camp early on Monday wounding about 100 people.

New Era: Iran, Saudi, China Now On The Same Side

Middle East oil-producing rivals, Saudi Arabia and Iran have ended their rift, and have agreed to restore ties and reopen embassies after China brokered a deal between both states. The giants have also agreed to reimplement the 1998 security pact where they agreed to cooperate on terrorism, drug-smuggling and money laundering, as well as reviving trade and technology. The rivalry between predominantly Shia Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia has dominated Middle East politics in recent years, spreading into Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen. It further deepened in 2016 when Iranian protesters attacked the Saudi embassy in the Iranian capital following the execution of a Shi’ite cleric in Saudi Arabia.

President Muhammadu Buhari traveled out of the country on Tuesday morning to embark on an eight-day diplomatic visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Buhari is expected to perform the lesser pilgrimage (Umrah), during his stay in the Kingdom of Saudi. This was revealed in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Monday evening.

China's parliament has backed the leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and head of the military, Xi Jinping a historic third term as president, making him the longest-serving head of state of Communist China since 1949. More than 2,000 members of China’s parliament, the National People’s Congress (NPC), voted unanimously in the Great Hall of the People to keep President, Xi Jinping for another five years, making a three-term tenure having assumed office a decade ago.
