The Lagos State Government has announced that it has shut down 20 important roads on Lagos Island and Victoria Island. The State announced that the road was closed for two reasons, for the continuation of repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works and also for Saturday’s Women’s Marathon.
According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repairs will last for 40 days hence, traffic diversion will begin on Saturday, November 11, and last till Thursday, December 21, 2023. The government noted that alternative routes for motorists for the project’s duration have been provided and has further urged motorists to ply the Marine Bridge Access Road to Area B and make a U-turn at Point Junction Road towards Marine Bridge to continue their journeys.
Similarly, due to the Women’s Marathon, the following roads will be closed between 6.00 am and 2.00 pm on Saturday, 11th November, 2023.
Outer Marina Road and Odunlami Street, Lagos Island; Inner Marina Road inwards NITEL Building, and Brooks Street; Catholic Mission Street by Water Board, Hawley Street, Okesuna Street and Moloney Street; Onikan underpass by Officers Mess; the adjoining Streets along Ahmadu Bello Way, ( including Adeola Odeku Junction by Ahmadu Bello way); the adjoining streets along Akin Adesola Street and Falomo Ramp bridge from Victoria Island.
Other are the exit road from MTN building, Falomo; Bourdilon road by Giwa barracks, entry to Falomo roundabout from Alfred Rewane by Church of the Assumption; the adjoining Streets along Awolowo road and Onikan roundabout by King George V road.
Osiyemi appealed to citizens and motorists for their patience, affirming that traffic officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to manage traffic flow and minimize inconveniences.
