The 2023 All African Games which kicked-off on March 8 in Ghana and came to an end on Saturday with Team Nigeria finishing overall second place with a total of 121 medals consisting of 47 Gold, 34 Silver and 40 Bronze medals. Weightlifting produced Team Nigeria’s highest medal haul with 32 medals consisting of 10 Gold, 10 Silver and 6 Bronze medals. Athletics was Nigeria’s second most productive sport at the 13th edition of the tournament with 22 medals.
Tobi Amusan won her third consecutive African Games gold medal in the women’s 100 meters race and she also won a gold medal for the women’s 4 X 100 meters.
Team Nigeria also won eight gold medals from boxing and 13 medals from arm wrestling.
Nigeria’s medal haul was only bested by Egypt which had 191 medals, South Africa finished overall third with 106 medals while Algeria finished fourth with 114 medals.
The hosts, Ghana was sixth on the medal standings table with a total of 68 medals.
The next edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt in 2027.
