INEC To Resume Voter Registration June 28

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Wednesday disclosed that arrangements to resume the continuous Voters Registration (CVR) has been concluded and set for June 28, 2021. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made the disclosure during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja. The INEC Chairman noted the commission was working towards upgrading the CVR software to accommodate the newly established polling units.

Reps Overturn National Water Resources Bill

The House of Representatives has rescinded the passage of the controversial National Water resources bill over flaws in the procedure that led to its passage bill. Upon resumption on Tuesday, a member of the House, Ben Nzondo from Benue State moved a point of privilege and argued that the proper procedure was not followed on the bill. In his ruling, speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila concluded that Nzondo had raised fundamental objections that must be looked into. Citing several sections of the House rules to back Mzondu's argument, he said: "I have painstakingly searched through all the journals of the House and cannot find where the Bill is gazetted and I stand to be challenged or corrected. “I wish to move, relying on Order 8, Rule 8, and the above-stated rules, that the House do rescind/expunge its decision of 23rd July 2020, which adopted the National Water Resources Bill 2020 H3921 to have been read the third time from our records. I so move,” Mzondu said.

$65M FRAUD: Presidency Dissociates President Buhari From Kumo

The Presidency has distanced President Muhammadu Buhari from Gimba Yau Kumo, who was recently declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with a $65 million fraud at the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN). However, in a statement yesterday, by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency described the attempt to link the alleged fraudster as “an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting”. According to the statement, the alleged suspect was indeed married to an unnamed member of the President’s family but clarified that the said marriage ended sometime back. Addressing the supposed relationship between President Buhari and the alleged suspect, the Presidency noted the ongoing prosecution move by the ICPC only supports the authenticity of the administration’s fight against corruption, not minding who is involved. The ICPC, in a list of wanted persons posted on its website, declared Kumo wanted alongside Tarry Rufus and Bola Ogunsola over the alleged fraud.

Magu Probe: President Buhari Reiterates His Intolerance For Corruption

Justice Ayo Salami, the chairman of the panel set up to investigate allegations of corruption against the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu, has presented the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry on Friday, to President Muhammadu Buhari, at the state House Abuja, wherein he recommended that the next head of the anti-corruption agency should come from outside of the Police Force. Receiving the report Mr. President said he hopes to make Nigeria a country with no tolerance for corruption.

Former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan Moves To PDP

Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan on Monday, defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Ex-governor who made the above information public on his Twitter handle said “I am back to join forces with other party greats to strengthen our party, the largest Party in Africa -PDP!.” Uduaghan, who was Delta State Governor for eight years in the build up to 2019 elections jumped ship to the APC where he contested the senatorial seat and lost.
