Ex-Sierra Leone President Koroma To Move To Nigeria On Asylum 

Controversy yesterday trailed plans by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to relocate former Sierra Leone President, Ernest Bai Koroma, to Nigeria. Koroma who was found culpable following investigations into a botched coup d’etat in his country will spent time in Nigeria on political asylum. In a letter yesterday, the ECOWAS Commission President, Omar Alieu Touray, indicated that the move to relocate Koroma followed an agreement reached by an ECOWAS Mission to Freetown on December 23. The high-level delegation was led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the Republic of Ghana and Macky Sail of Senegal.

UN Officially Ends Mission In Mali

The United Nation, UN, has officially ends its peace-keeping mission in Mali on Monday. The mission, known as MINUSMA, lowered the United Nations flag on its headquarters in the capital Bamako, after a 10-year deployment of its military operatives.

Guinea Bissau Dissolves Parliament

Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo dissolved parliament in a decree on Monday that accused the government of passivity in the face of violence last week that he said was an attempted coup. His move left the unstable West African nation without a lawmaking body for the second time since he came to power in 2020, raising the prospect of further turmoil. New elections would be held at an unspecified future date, he said.

Coup: ECOWAS Court Rejects Niger's Request To Lift Economic Sanctions

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, dismissed a request to lift the sanctions imposed by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government on Niger Republic in the aftermath of the latest coup in the country. Although the court affirmed that it had jurisdiction to hear the case, it ruled that it could not grant the request for interim measures requested by Niger's junta. Recall that the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government led by President Bola Tinubu had on August 8 imposed sanctions on the Niger Republic because the junta failed to reinstate the ousted President, Mohamed Bazoum.

President Tinubu Arrives UAE, Meet With King Charles III

President Bola Tinubu, hours after presenting the 2024 appropriation bill to the National Assembly has arrived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to attend the COP28 Climate Summit which is scheduled to hold from 1st to 2nd December 2023. The president upon arrival met with His Majesty, King Charles III. The President noted that meeting with the Common Wealth Monarch was productive, and he is optimistic about the positive impact the joint efforts will have on the planet’s future.
