Storm Kills Over 5,000 In Libya, Thousands More Missing

At least more than 5,000 people are missing in Libya after a severe storm slammed into its eastern coast this week, according to the Red Cross. The storm made landfall in Libya a few days later, causing flooding on Sunday in cities along its eastern coast, including Benghazi, Bayda, and Derna. More than 5,300 bodies have so far been recovered in Derna. This is the worst, affected city where at least 34,000 people have been displaced.
The death toll is expected to rise as operations continue to recover bodies.

President Tinubu Travels To UAE For Bilateral Talks

After attending the G-20 Summit in India, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday night for bilateral talks with Emirati authorities which was made known in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Ajuri Ngelale.

Deadly Earthquake Kills Over 800 People In Morocco

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has hit Morocco killing at least 820 people, injuring over 670, damaging ancient buildings, and sending terrified residents fleeing their homes into the streets seeking for safety. The earthquake is the strongest to hit central Morocco in more than a century has left more than 800 people dead, with most of those killed in hard to reach mountainous areas.

UK Embassy Establishes Visa Centre In Enugu

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chidiebere Onyia, disclosed this in a statement he issued on Monday, September 11, in Enugu. Onyia commended the United Kingdom government for the development, recalling that the visa centre was part of Governor Peter Mbah’s earlier requests during the visit to the Government House by the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, in June this year.

Niger Coup: Biden Hails Tinubu For Timely Intervention

The United States President, Joe Biden has commended Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his timely intervention to preserve democracy and rule of law in Niger Republic after the junta took power. Military Junta led by, Amadou Abdramane, had on July 26^th, 2023 toppled the democratically-elected President Mohamed Bazoum. Shortly, the military leadership suspended the constitution of Niger Republic and other critical institutions in the country through shutting down all its borders.

Niger Coup: US Begins First Major Military Repositioning 

The United States of America has commenced a major military movement in Niger Republic. The Headquarters, United States Department of Defence (Pentagon), is now repositioning some troops and equipment within Niger. The US will also withdraw a small number of non-essential personnel “out of an abundance of caution.” This is the first major military movement since the coup in July.
