The Federal High Court sitting at Wawa Military Cantonment, Kainji, Niger State, yesterday sentenced a Boko Haram terrorist group commander, Abba Umar, to 60 years imprisonment for various acts of terrorism. The 22-year-old commander of the Boko Haram sect said he will rush back to Sambisa Forest to continue with terrorism if released.

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday said the leader of a faction of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau has fled the Sambisa forest following intense bombardment by the Military as well as the capturing of most of the camps in the forest. The Army in a statement issued by spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, said Shekau is on the run disguising as a woman in different hijab attires to evade arrest.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has vowed to arrest and prosecute the “mysterious snake” which allegedly took N36 million from its vault in Benue state.

Fabian Benjamin, spokesman of the examination body, said this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

One Philomina Chieshe, a sales clerk, told Ishaq Oloyode, JAMB registrar and his team that she could not account for N36 million she made in previous years before the abolition of scratch cards.

During interrogation, Chieshe reportedly confessed that her housemaid connived with Joan Asen, a JAMB official, to “spiritually” (through a snake) steal the money from the vault in the account office.

Armed Fulani herdmen on Tuesday morning sacked Akure South Local Government Secretariat by chasing workers out of the premises over an alleged disagreement. According to Punch, it took the intervention of the Ondo State Commissioner of police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Pedro Ideba, who deployed their men in the council, before the situation was brought under control.

The Commissioner of Police, Borno state Command, Damian Chukwu has clarified that the 10 women released by Boko Haram along with three University of Maiduguri lecturers are not Police personnel. The Commissioner of Police stated this on Monday while addressing newsmen at the Monthly Police Officers' meeting. He said reports suggesting that the women are Police officers were misleading.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has ordered the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), to expose criminals and killer herdsmen amongst them. The monarch who stated this on Sunday in Minna, the Niger State capital during a national executive council meeting of MACBAN regretted that Fulani herdsmen were being generally painted as criminals because of the activities of the few bad eggs.
