Worldwide, Ramadan and Lent Begin Today
Around the world, millions of Christians and Muslims are starting to observe Lent and Ramadan, which are times for introspection, fasting, and devotion in their respective religions. Muslims observe Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, as a period of self-discipline, increased prayer, charity, and fasting from sunrise to sunset. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season, and Christians who observe it will also begin a 40-day journey of prayer, penance, and self-denial that culminates on Easter Sunday.
