The Jama'atu Nasril Islam has extended its warmest greetings to all Muslims as the Nigerian Muslim Ummah begins a new Islamic year, Muharram 1447 AH. This was said by Prof. Khalid Aliyu, the JNI Secretary-General, in a statement released in Kaduna on Thursday. According to Aliyu, this holy month is significant in the Islamic calendar because it is one of the four months when vices and conflicts are prohibited.
For the sake of international peace and stability, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar, has made a sincere plea to world leaders to defuse tensions, especially those between Iran and Israel. Muslims in Nigeria are urged to renew their devotion to Allah and to continue being law-abiding, peaceful, and devout.
Aliyu encouraged Muslims to observe Tasu'a and Ashura, voluntary fasts, on July 4 and 5.
During Muharram, he claimed that Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) emphasized the value of fasting, saying that it was the best fast following Ramadan.
The JNI also urged people to pray fervently for peace, security, and betterment in Nigeria.
"The Muslims are urged to consistently seek Allah's forgiveness, guidance, and protection," Aliyu continued.
The group also prayed to Allah to intervene kindly on behalf of Muslim refugees and internally displaced people around the world.
“The Muslims are reminded of the importance of servitude to Allah, piety, commitment, and positive change as they celebrate the new Hijri year,” Aliyu stated.
He urged impartial, good administration and emphasized the importance of respecting established authority.
"May the Muslim Ummah around the world be blessed and prosper abundantly in this new year," Aliyu stated.
