President Bola Tinubu has nominated the immediate former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, as the new Minister of Defence.

The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during a screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes. Senators expressed confidence in his competence and leadership qualities. The Plateau-born technocrat, now the third minister from his state in the current administration, pledged to ensure fairness and transparency in the country’s humanitarian initiatives.

The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dropped his earlier plan to call witnesses in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism-related offenses. At the last hearing on October 24, the court adjourned till October 27 for Kanu to begin his defense. The IPOB leader had previously written to the court expressing his intention to summon witnesses and requested more time to review his case file.

Kanu, who had earlier filed a preliminary objection challenging the court’s jurisdiction to continue his trial, changed course following a medical report confirming him fit to stand trial.

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has reportedly resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He was said to have been accompanied by 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in the move. The development comes barely a day after Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah also joined the APC, signaling what appears to be a growing wave of defections by prominent political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
