The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dropped his earlier plan to call witnesses in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism-related offenses. At the last hearing on October 24, the court adjourned till October 27 for Kanu to begin his defense. The IPOB leader had previously written to the court expressing his intention to summon witnesses and requested more time to review his case file.

The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has urged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to take prompt disciplinary action against Mr. Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, over alleged professional misconduct linked to his participation in the recent “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest held in Abuja.

Hours after a protest in parts of Abuja led by African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore demanding his release, detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu made a surprising move on Tuesday by announcing his readiness to open his defense. Kanu, who had earlier filed a preliminary objection challenging the court’s jurisdiction to continue his trial, changed course following a medical report confirming him fit to stand trial.

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has reportedly resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He was said to have been accompanied by 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in the move. The Federal Government has unveiled plans to permanently discontinue deductions for the cost of revenue collection previously paid to agencies such as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), among others. Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has declared October 20 as the date for a peaceful protest march to the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
